1. What is RentMine.com?

RentMine.com is an online rental marketplace that allows its users to rent anything to each other through our secure online reservation system. Our users have listed their home possessions and vehicles as well as their services, such as babysitting, tutoring, and dogwalking. For more information, see How It Works.

Who can use RentMine?

Any U.S. residents over the age of 17 with access to the Internet.

How do I sign up?

Register here. You will be asked for some personal information to build your profile so you can participate in the RentMine community. You will then receive an email to confirm your account.

Why should I list on RentMine?

Listing your items/services gives you opportunity to make money from items you already own. Many of us own things we rarely use or have valuable skills we don’t use fully -- why not make a little money from your unused possessions or skills? RentMine allows you to provide feedback to the renter, and provides legal contracts that the renter must agree to so that you and your possessions can be protected. You can begin listing your items here.

How much does it cost?

Being a member of the site is absolutely free! If you are renting items, you only have to pay the price that the owner asks, in person, through PayPal, or whatever method works best for you. The owner will be charged a small percentage of the transaction. See our pricing structure for owners here.

2. What is a listing?

A listing is a page dedicated to a specific item or service. It includes information such as price, features, general availability, pictures, feedback for the owner, and a specific availability calendar.

How do I list an item/service?

Simply go to our List An Item page and fill out the required information.

How should I price my item/service?

You can price your item/service however you see fit. We suggest consulting the prices of similar listed items and, when appropriate, making your daily rate approximately 4 to 5 times your hourly rate.

How can I edit/delete my listing?

If you are logged in to RentMine, go to your My RentMine page and click "Items I Have Listed For Rent." There you will be able to edit or delete any of your listed items.

Who can see my listing?

Whoever YOU want. To maximize your revenue and market, you should leave your listing available to everyone. You can make your listings visible to everybody, just your friends, or specific groups you are in.

How long does my listing stay on the site?

Your listing will be up until you take it down. If people seek to rent your item and you become unresponsive, we will take it down after 30 days.

Should I add a picture to my listing?

We definitely suggest adding at least 1 picture for all of your items. A picture will greatly increase your chances of people wanting to rent your item. It is not necessary, but highly suggested.

How many items/services can I list?

You can list as many items as you want.

What category should I list my item in?

Choose the category that you feel best applies. If you are unsure, post it in the “Other” category or contact us for suggestions.

What are my responsibilities as an owner?

1. Communicate promptly and clearly with potential renters regarding your listed items/services.
2. Keep the availability of your listings updated.
3. Leave feedback for all borrowers of you items.
4. Respect the community, and all users within it.

3. How do I find an item/service to rent?

You can search for specific items using our search box or browse by category. Your searches and browsing results will be based on their geographic proximity to you.

I’ve found an item/service I want, how do I rent it?

The listing has a button on it called “Rent Now,” which will allow you to fill in the necessary information including length of rental, start time, method of payment, etc. RentMine will then send an email to the owner of the item to confirm the details. The owner will confirm, deny, or propose changes (such as pickup/drop-off time or location) to your rental. You will then receive an email with these results. Once confirmed, your rental will be “locked”. If denied, you will be notified. If changes are made, you will have the option to confirm, deny, or change again.

How do I pay for my rental?

The owner of the item may accept PayPal, Cash, Check, or Cashiers Check/Money Order. It is up to you and the owner to determine the actual method of payment.

What should I do if I can’t find the item I’m looking for?

Request the item on the "Wanted Items" page and hopefully someone will come forward to fill your need!

4. What is a group?

A group is exactly what it sounds like, a group of users that have something in common (same neighborhood, school, church, etc). Groups help foster connectivity. Being in a group does not preclude you from participating in the general RentMine community.

What groups should I be in?

You can be in whatever groups you want, or no groups at all. We suggest being in any geographic groups that apply specifically to you as well as any college/university that apply. You can also join groups based on faith based institutions, charities or shared interests.

What is a "closed" group?

If a group is closed, it means that the creator of the group must confirm that people are part of the existing social group before they are added to the RentMine group.

How do I join an open group?

Just click the “Join this group” button on the group page and you will be immediately added.

How do I join a closed group?

There are two ways that the group creator could have set it up. If you are prompted for a passcode, contact the group creator and aks to be invited to the group. If the group is not password protected, you will have to wait to be confirmed by the group creator. If the group is closed, click “Request to join this group” and your request will be sent to the group administrator. If (s)he confirms your request, you will be automatically added to the group.

How do I start a group?

To start a group, go to the Create A Group page.

5. What is Feedback?

Feedback is a rating of a user based on other user's previous experiences with them.

Why should I leave feedback?

RentMine is a community based on trust. Leaving feedback helps to increase trust within the RentMine community. Users with better feedback scores are more likely to be accepted for rentals, and if you are renting, you can choose items based partly on an owners feedback score. If a person's feedback score gets too low, we reserve the right to bar that individual from the RentMine community.

What is my feedback score?

To view this, go to My Feedback. You can access it from your Profile.

6. What is my profile?

Your profile is where all of your personal information is, including your name, zip code, favorite items, favorite renters, etc.

How do I view my profile?

Your profile can be viewed here or by clicking the "My Public Profile" link in My RentMine.

How can I edit my profile?

Your profile can be edited here or by clicking the "Edit Profile" link in My RentMine.

8. Who are my trusted users?

Trusted users are users who you have a relationship with, or have transacted with through the site in the past, who you know to be trustworthy individuals.

How do I add trusted users?

You add friends by clicking the “Add to Trusted Users” button on the users profile or typing their username into the “Add Username” box in your trusted users page which can be found in My RentMine.

Why have trusted users?

Having trusted users works as a filter for items you are listing and/or looking for. If you are looking for an item, you can first look to see if any of your trusted users have it.

9. What charities can I donate my money to?

You can donate your money to any of the charities listed on the site. You can also donate to faith based establishments, such as temples and churches, which have groups within the site.

What do I do if I want to donate to a charity not represented on RentMine.com?

You have two options, you can contact us and we may add the charity to our database (pending approval), or you can withdraw the money in your account and donate it on your own.
